“It is not permissible for anyone to remain idle”

Phone Maine Voters

SAN FRANCISCO, October 16, 2009 - The voters of Maine have one last chance to restore the definition of marriage in their state by passing Question 1 on the November 3 ballot (similar to Prop 8 in California). This election has national significance because if they lose, the advocates of same-sex “marriage” will be able to claim, for the first time ever, majority voter support for redefining marriage. We did not win Prop 8 in California to lose in Maine!

The Maine Legislature, with the signature of the governor, legalized same-sex “marriage” earlier this year. The voters can only restore traditional marriage by passing Question 1. Recognizing the significance of this effort, Equality California and national gay rights organizations are pouring paid staff, volunteers and almost unlimited financial resources into the state. They have mobilized volunteers around the country to make phone calls into Maine to contact every voter.

The good people of Maine, trying to restore the definition of marriage and protect their children from being taught same-sex marriage in the schools, are being overwhelmed by paid professional campaign workers that have been shipped into Maine by opponents and are being outspent by almost 3 to 1. Opponents are saturating the air waves with deceptive and misleading TV ads.

Phone Maine Voters

“Stand for Marriage Maine” needs help with phone calls to voters.

Already, your Catholics for the Common Good Co-Chairs are organizing phone banks in San Diego, Orange County, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, and Fresno. If you are interested in helping or setting up phone banks in your area, please respond to this email immediately.

Volunteers can also call from home. They have a tool on the campaign website that will provide a script and list of voters to call . Once you sign up, go to the home page and select “Call Maine Voters” and you will be in business. It is that easy.

Notes for home callers:
  • Remember there Maine is in the Eastern Time Zone, three hours later than the Pacific Zone. Phone calls can be made anytime of day, but not after 5:30 pm Pacific Time.
  • If someone answers the phone, just select the “contacted” button next to the name and you will be given options to indicate whether the voter is for, against or undecided.
  • Obviously if you leave a phone message, you will not want to say “I'm voting Yes on Question 1” as the script suggests. You can say, “I encourage you to vote Yes”

And of course, being outspent by almost 3 to 1, “Yes on One” needs financial support as well. You may donate at http://standformarriagemaine.com .

Please pray for Maine marriage supporters and volunteers. Please place them under the protection of Our Lady of Guadalupe as she led us to victory in California.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, please pray for us. Lead us to your Son that we may be filled with the Holy Spirit to work in union with Him to restore God's creation and the reality of marriage to its original value. Amen.
