California Same-Sex "Marriage" Ad Campaign Requires Response

Action Alert

SAN FRANCISCO, October 12, 2007 -- Equality California has just started an advertising campaign in the state to promote same-sex "marriage". It is a major escalation in the effort to deconstruct and change the true meaning and purpose of marriage.

News Interview: Same-Sex "Marriage" Ad Misrepresents Marriage

It is most disturbing to see this purely emotional ad targeting our young, who have not yet formed a deep understanding of marriage beyond the romantic images and dreams of wedding days.

You can find out more about the ad and CCG response to it by watching a news interview.

Stand Up for Children

Catholics for the Common Good issued a press release in response to the advertising campaign. The press release contains new positive approaches to showing why same-sex "marriage" needs to be opposed. Read the press release.

As you will see from the press release, there is much more at stake than protecting marriage and reserving it for men and women. It is about defending weak and powerless children against rich and powerful special interest groups.

As the Catholic Church teaches, laws must be directed toward the good of the human person and contribute to their flourishing. In the case of marriage -- it is all about mothers and fathers and the best environment for the development of children. In secular terms, the question that must be asked and answered is: "What is the public interest in marriage?"

ACTION:

Let's start a rational discussion about the public interest of marriage - by writing letters to the editors, or calling radio talk shows.

We must help people understand that same-sex "marriage" is contrary to the public interest.

For consistent message, please follow the points contained in the press release. Raise questions about the public interest in same-sex "marriage".

Remember, this is not about personal behavior, or personal or public morality. Our goal is promoting marriage which is the foundation of the family with a mother and a father.

Become a voice for the interests of children, who depend on adults to represent them. They are powerless, they don't make political contributions, they can't raise money for expensive advertising campaigns. Can they count on you?
