SAN FRANCISCO, February 12, 2008-- Oral arguments will be heard by the California Supreme Court on Tuesday, March 4, in the case challenging the constitutionality of the current law restricting marriage to a relationship between a man and a woman.
The Court has extended the usual one hour to three hours for oral arguments starting at 9 am. The California Channel will broadcast the session live.
California voters expressed their support for marriage in 2000Â by passing Proposition 22 by an overwhelming 61.4%. The proposition defined marriage as only between a man and a woman.
The constitutionality of the current marriage statutes is being challenged by four lawsuits filed by the City of San Francisco and three same-sex couples.
A final court decision is expected within 90 days of the oral arguments.
