9th Circuit Prop 8 Decision to Be Announced Tuesday AM

SAN FRANCISCO, February 6, 2012 -- We could be surprised, but given the reputation of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, it is likely they will uphold Judge Walker's radical decision to overturn Prop 8 when they announce their decision on Tuesday morning at 10 AM.

Whatever the outcome, a massive response by Prop 8 supporters is very important. It will be time to email radio and TV talk shows, call into shows discussing the topic, and write letters to the editor.

Our opponents made an unprecedented request that the court give them 24 hours' notice before releasing their decision. They are no doubt rallying their troops and want to make the issue about gays and lesbians.

The issue being decided here has nothing to do with them, and it is important that our response reflects the real issue. Judge Vaughn Walker found that California citizens had no rational reason for voting for marriage between a man and a woman, leaving bigotry and discrimination as the only possible reason. To arrive at his conclusion, using sleight of hand, he created an entirely new definition of marriage as merely the public recognition of a committed relationship between adults. In reality, Prop 8 protected the only institution that unites children with their moms and dads. How can anyone fail to see the value in that for children and society?
