Our Lady of Guadalupe
Star of the New Evangelization
Patroness Special to CCG and Marriage Advocates

To learn more about Our
Lady of Guadalupe, and
her importance for the
evangelization of culture, we recommend Carl Anderson’s new book, Our Lady of Guadalupe: Mother of the Civilization of Love.

In the Jubilee Year 2000, Pope John Paul II gave the Americas a new patroness for the evangelization of culture, Our Lady of Guadalupe, whom he identified as the "Star of the New Evangelization". During Proposition 8, we placed the volunteers and the entire campaign to restore marriage under her protection. Since then, we have come to recognize that she is playing a critical role in the life of this apostolate. She is not only our mother and intercessor, but our model and guide.

Please join us in praying the novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe for the evangelization of culture, for the protection of the unborn, marriage and the family. It begins December 4 and concludes on her Feast Day, December 12. The novena can be found at http://www.ccgaction.org/downloads/OLG Novena.pdf

In his pastoral visit to America in 1999, John Paul II addressed the people of Mexico saying, “I would like to turn my thoughts to Tepeyac, to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Star of the first and the new evangelization of America. To her I entrust the pilgrim Church in the American continent, and I fervently ask her to guide her children, so that they will enter the third millennium with faith and hope.” (John Paul II, Mass for the Faithful of Mexico, Pastoral Visit to America, January 24, 1999, #7)

Her apparition in Mexico is the only time in history that Our Lady has appeared for the sole purpose of evangelizing and provides a perfect model for inculturation of Catholicism. Without the benefit of radio, television the internet, or newspapers, nine million people converted to the faith in just fifteen years following her apparition.

“Through (Our Lady of Guadalupe's) powerful intercession, the Gospel will penetrate the hearts of the men and women of America and permeate their cultures, transforming them from within.” (Ecclesia in America, 70)

With the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, our task of evangelizing culture, which at times seems so burdensome, can become a source of joy and hope. It is for this reason that CCG invokes the protection of Our Lady of Guadalupe in all of our endeavors, and asks her intercession for all of our volunteers, supporters and benefactors.

We encourage you to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe in your parish, (Arch)Diocese, or within your apostolates. A list of some of the Feast Day celebrations around the state can be found at http://www.ccgaction.org/downloads/OLGCelebrations.pdf

With John Paul II, we “hope that she, whose intercession was responsible for strengthening the faith of the first disciples (cf. Jn 2:11), will by her maternal intercession guide the Church in America, obtaining the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, as she once did for the early Church (cf. Acts 1:14), so that the new evangelization may yield a splendid flowering of Christian life.” (EA, 58)

Our Lady of Guadalupe protect our children and grandchildren from the influences of the culture that undermine their understanding of marriage and the family. Through your intercession and through the power of the Holy Spirit, help us build a civilization of love in our homes, our parishes and our communities.

Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.
