SAN FRANCISCO, May 5, 2012 -- Senator Christine Kehoe (D-San Diego) announced late Friday that she was withdrawing her bill to permit certain non-doctors to perform first trimester vacuum aspiration abortions. She was not able to get any Senate Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee members, who had previously voted against the bill, to change their votes. SAN FRANCISCO, May 3, 2012 -- Senator Christine Kehoe (D-San Diego), backed by the power of state Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento), is attempting a sneaky amendment to revive SB 1338, a bill to permit non-doctors to perform first trimester vacuum aspiration surgical abortions. The passage of the bill was blocked in the Senate Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee on a 4-4 vote last week that stunned the abortion lobby. Two Democrats voted against it.

SAN FRANCISCO, September 29, 2011(update) -- The San Francisco Board of Supervisors, City Operations and Neighborhood Services Committee met on September 26, to consider legislation to put severe restrictions on pregnancy resource centers in the city. However, they ended up rejecting  NARAL's claims that pregnancy resource centers engage in false and misleading advertising, the justification for the draft ordinance. They are unwilling to make a recommendation to the full board that will consider the matter on October 18. It was a small victory, but a large fight looms. A large show of support is needed at the upcoming hearing. Read further about what action is needed.
