However, they ended up rejecting NARAL's claims that pregnancy resource centers engage in false and misleading advertising, the justification for the draft ordinance. They are unwilling to make a recommendation to the full board that will consider the matter on October 18. It was a small victory, but a large fight looms. A large show of support is needed at the upcoming hearing. Read further about what action is needed.

Veto on AB 499 a Realistic Possibility If Enough People Call the Governor Now New Research Reveals Waste and Subterfuge SAN FRANCISCO, September 15, 2011-- These days, Governor Brown’s phone (916-445-2841) is often busy as thousands are calling for his veto of AB 499. It is an outrageous attack on parental rights and responsibility that would let interest groups like Planned Parenthood go, without their parents’ knowledge, directly to children as young as 12 years old and talk them into being vaccinated with Gardasil, a vaccine for preventing 4 strains of the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus.
HHS's Contraceptive Mandate Violates Conscience Rights Send Comments Before September 30 WASHINGTON, D.C., September 1, 2011 -- In implementing the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently issued guidelines requiring almost all private health plans to cover FDA-approved contraceptive methods and sterilization as “preventive services” for women. On August 3, HHS published an interim final rule that references these guidelines, and allows HRSA to implement a very narrow and inadequate religious exemption. This action poses an unprecedented threat to the religious freedom of individuals and institutions. Until now, no federal law has required private health plans to cover these services.
