The Grammys, an Occasion of Sin?

As Mockery of Marriage Continues
New Urgency to Celebrate World Marriage Day
Sunday, February 9

by William B. May

SAN FRANCISCO, January 28, 2014 -- Sadly, everywhere we turn, allies of the gay rights movement are making profane and irreverent spectacles of so-called marriages between same-sex couples. They are happening at inappropriate venues, which have been previously associated with family entertainment or awards for achievements in the arts and entertainment. Two recent examples include a wedding on a float in the Tournament of Roses Parade and a group wedding during the Grammy Awards. What should the appropriate Christian response be to such stunts?

World Marriage Day

Ignore this attention seeking behavior and do something positive to defiantly witness the true meaning and purpose of marriage as a part of God's plan for creation. There is a great opportunity coming up with World Marriage Sunday on February 9. Remind your pastor in case he may have forgotten, and share the Marriage Recognition Kit CCG has prepared for you. Consider planning a celebration of marriage at home on that Sunday or on Valentine's Day coming up on February 14. (

Don’t let these demonstrations tempt you to fall into the sin of despair. Marriage is a reality that when recognized by law creates the only civil institution that unites children with their moms and dads. That is a fact that can be never changed. It is critical for us to witness that fact in every venue and at every opportunity we can for the benefit of our young so that they never forget its true meaning and purpose, and how critical it is as the foundation of their own families. As I have said, every child is at risk today as more than half of children born to women under 30 are outside of marriage.

Don’t let these scandals that trivialize marriage and corrupt the societal understanding of marriage tempt you to become angry and lash out to condemn. These in-your-face demonstrations can infuriate, particularly in states like California where every public official has decided to disregard the valid provision of the state constitution that defines marriage as only between a man and a woman. Our response must be one of love and prayer combined with a strong and defiant determination to join and support this positive movement to restore the recognition of the true meaning and purpose of marriage.

Let’s join and offer prayers for the wide recognition and celebration of World Marriage Sunday on February 9.
