CCG Press Release: CCG Chair Comments on Same-Sex "Marriage" Ad Campaign

SAN FRANCISCO, October 12, 2007 -- Equality California has just started an advertising campaign in the state to promote same-sex "marriage". It is a major escalation in the effort to deconstruct and change the true meaning and purpose of marriage.
It is most disturbing to see this purely emotional ad targeting our young, who have not yet formed a deep understanding of marriage beyond the romantic images and dreams of wedding days. See the ad and CCG response in a news interview.

US Bishops Promote Marriage
New Website Launched
WASHINGTON, August 6, 2007-- Putting a modern image on traditional values, the U.S. Catholic bishops recently launched a Web site designed to promote healthy marriages. The Web site ( can aid couples of all faiths. With everything from daily marriage tips to statistics on divorce and cohabitation, this site is an up-to-date resource.

Marriage, which undergirds the institution of the family, is constituted by the covenant whereby "a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of their whole life", and which "of its own very nature is ordered to the well-being of the spouses and to the procreation and upbringing of children".

Pope John Paul II
Letter to Families

Marriage, the Foundation of Society
Marriage is the very foundation of society. It is the institution that provides for procreation, a mother and a father and a stable family structure, which are so important to the development of children. The family with a mother and father is where the next generation is nurtured and formed. Without these conditions it simply cannot be marriage. A legal relationship that is not life giving and excludes the possibility of a mother or a father can never be marriage.

History has shown that there cannot be a strong nation without marriage and strong families. This is a significant reason that societies have laws to encourage and protect marriage.

SACRAMENTO, August 16, 2008 --Some years ago, during a meeting with a now-deceased member of the state Democratic caucus regarding a then-proposed measure to change the definition of marriage, the legislator shot back at me: “Well, without procreation, what would be the difference?”
